William Ince - Cabinet Maker by Sarah Ingle
I was very honoured to write the Forword for this second edition of this fascinating book about one of the most notable furniture making companies of the 18th century, Ince and Mayhew. Sarah Ingle is a descendant of William Ince and she has compiled this interesting story of how William Ince began his career and his partnership with John Mayhew. Her story begins in rural Worcestershire in Tudor times and runs across the years to a detailed history of this important firm. From their furniture directory, 'The Universal System of Household Furniture', to the winding up of the long running Chancery case that ended the partnership.
The book has over a hundred illustrations with drawings and watercolours, as well as maps and diagrams, more than half in colour.
If you are interested in 18th century cabinet making at it's best, this is a book for you!
