Pair of cut glass decanters and wooden coasters

Pair of cut glass decanters and wooden coasters
Circa 1820
An extremely rare pair of shield shaped or crescent shaped mahogany coasters. Each of the two coasters have a pierced hand grip and inlaid with CLARET and PORT respectively. Each coaster features a pocket designed to insulate the decanter from the heat, as well as accommodate a cloth for the butler or sommelier to use when pouring.
The pair of decanters have a Dukes coronet beautifully engraved with the monogram FS below the coronet. We have found four Dukes with family names beginning with S of the period 1820 - 1840
Seymour - Somerset
Somerset - Beaufort
Spencer - Marlborough
Sackville -Dorset.
The cutting on the decanter is known as strawberry cut which you find on the very best quality glass.
