Late Victorian mahogany pedestal writing desk with impeccable provenance

Late Victorian mahogany pedestal writing desk with impeccable provenance
Circa 1890
A 19th century faded mahogany free-standing pedestal writing desk with an inset leather lined writing surface. Nine drawers on one side. Three drawers over cupboards on each pedestal on the opposing side.

This desk belonged to the late Sir David Maxwell Fyfe, the eminent lawyer, politician, judge and Deputy British prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials. Later he was a champion in drafting the European Convention which in part was drafted at this desk. He held office as Lord Chancellor 1954-62 and later became the 1st Earl of Kilmuir.

This is the very desk he worked at in his office and came to us via his grandson. The family have been mounting significant commemorations this year to commemorate his contribution at the Nuremberg trials and in the signing of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Below is a video of Sir Maxwell Fyfe cross examining Goering. Fascinating to watch.
