18th century William & Mary fall front desk

18th century William & Mary fall front desk
Circa 1710
An early 18th century fall front writing cabinet or escritoire. Beautifully veneered in rosewood with geometric designs of holly throughout the front. It is extremely rare finding such an early piece of English furniture veneered in this exotic timber as usually they are veneered in indigenous timber such as burr or figured walnut, pollard oak.
These articles very rarely used exotic veneers. This leads me to conclude that this without doubt it was specially commissioned.
Maybe for a very wealthy family.
It is constructed in two parts with the upper section containing a hidden frieze drawer. The fall front below opens to reveal a fully fitted interior. The lower section contains two short and two long drawers.

The whole is raised on squat bun feet. The brassware is later.
