18th century mahogany writing desk
The whole is very much in the influence of Gillow’s of Lancaster. Note two interesting features the vertical strips on the rounded corners, and small flush locking drawers in the frieze towards the back of the table. English circa 1790.

Reference page number 146; You will also find an almost identical item of fine English furniture in the Grade 1 listed National Trust property; Uppark House, South Harting, Petersfield. Apparently this table (NT 137689) was presumably acquired by Sir Harry Fetherstonhaugh (1754-1846). It has been suggested that it could be the work of the firm of cabinet makers Gillows of Lancaster.
