18th century chinoiserie lacquered chair
Circa 1710
A fine 18th century single chair in beech wood with red and gold lacquered decoration, seat and back has caned panels. The back seat rail is stamped NS which is undoubtedly the chair-maker. The back legs and all the stretchers which are turned, with rectangular joint-sections, the front stretcher being set back from the front legs. The front legs are shallow cabrioles with club type feet. The caned seat rail is rectangular in shape The back has a high curved rake, two panels of canework, between a central red chinoiserie back splat and decorated with a single original figure.
