18th century Cabinet on stand
During the 18th century young gentleman undertook a Grand Tour of Europe as part of their education. Whilst on these tours many formed collections which needed to be housed and cabinet makers in England provided no end of solutions. This cabinet is a superior example but with a twist as it has Chinese scenes on the inset panels.
This exceptionally rare cabinet-on-stand is attributed to Ince and Mayhew. The cabinet stand is finely veneered in satinwood and banded with kingwood, amaranth and tulipwood.
A very similar item of furniture with inset panels can be seen in the National Trust property Osterly Park and House, London. (Accredited Museum).
