Circa 1690
A fine 17th century oil painting on canvas of Lady Letitia Poulett. The circle of William Wissing (1656 - 1687). Born in Amsterdam he came to London from The Hague in 1676 and became an assistant to the great Sir Peter Lely and upon Lely's death, completed his unfinished works. He developed a variation of Lely's style characterised by a brownish palette. Wissing became Court painter to King James II and was much patronised by the Earl of Exeter and the Lincolnshire gentry.

Lady Letitia Poulett was the daughter of John Lord Poulett by Essex Popham and wife of James William Monson Baronet. John Poulett was born in Hinton around 1641. He was the 3rd Baron Poulett. He married Essex Popham who was born around 1642 in Littlecott, Wiltshire. They had two children, Letitia was born about 1651, in Hinton, St George, Somerset. She married William Monson around 1684 and died about 1734. Their second daughter was Catherine who was born around 1668, she married William Fermor.
